My Little Secret: Chapter 2

#01: Gakuen Alice (Natsume & Mikan)

A voice in the darkness called her name.
"Who's there?"

"Mikan…"

"Who are you?" she asked, searching for the person desperately.

"Dear…"

Dear? Only Okaa-san calls me that, she thought and called out to the shadows, "Okaa-san? Is that you?"

She received no answer for a while.

"Yes, dear…" The voice replied and her mother appeared from the dark and stood before her.

"Okaa-san!" Mikan cried out as she ran towards her to hug her. "I missed you, Okaa-san."

"I missed you too, dear," her mother said gently, returning the hug.

She gazed into her mother's eyes. "When will you come back, Okaa-san?"

Her mother gave her a smile. "Soon. I have to go now. Tell sorry to Otou-san for me, dear."

Before she could say anything, her mother dissolved into the shadows. "Okaa-san, we will wait for your return…"

Then her head started to spin as consciousness began to evoke her mind.

Mikan opened her eyes and sat up on her bed. The dream lingered in the back of her mind. Okaa-san is coming back. I need to tell Otou-san about this.

Her eyes darted to the sleeping boy beside her. You-chan is even cuter when he's sleeping.

Before getting up from bed to start her morning routine, she stroked his silver hair.

As she walked out from the kitchen, she was greeted by Youichi, who was rubbing his sleepy eyes. "Good morning, Onee-chan."

"Morning, You-chan," she said as she kissed his forehead. "Now, you must prepare for school, too. Hotaru-nee-chan already brought your uniform here last night, okay?"

Youichi nodded before running to the bathroom.

Then, a soft knock was heard.

She smiled to herself as she knew that it was Hotaru.

"Coming," she called out before reaching the door, and as expected, it was Hotaru, holding a small bag.

"We have to go now. I'll accompany you to the teacher's office," Hotaru said impassively.

She let out a small smile. "Thank you, Hotaru."

After a few minutes, Youichi was ready.

Mikan took his little hand. "Come on, You-chan! Onee-chan will accompany you to your class."

"Hai, Onee-chan," You-chan replied happily.

Mikan put her mask on and assured herself before leaving her room, Everything will be fine.

Natsume flipped the page of his manga and started reading the new page.

An emotionless voice reached his ears. "How's your life in America?"

Imai? he guessed mentally. His eyes still glued on his manga.

After a while, he heard another voice. "Good, Aki-kun always helps me out when I'm in trouble."

A familiar voice reached his ears again. "When will Akira-nii-chan come here, Onee-chan?"

Youichi? He blinked and closed his manga and turned to look at three figures that were walking not far from him. He guessed it correctly. It was Hotaru and Youichi and a girl that he didn't know. The girl was wearing a mask. He narrowed his eyes. What's with the mask?

He had a feeling that she might be Youichi's sister, but then, Youichi's sister couldn't be that weird. He shrugged. Maybe a new student…

Mikan gave Youichi a peck on his chubby cheek. "Be a good boy. Onee-chan will go to the teacher's office now, okay?"

You-chan nodded and gave her a peck on the cheek, too. "See you at lunch time, Onee-chan."

As the boy ran into his classroom, Mikan and Hotaru went to the teacher's room in silence.

When Mikan and Hotaru reached there, Hotaru turned to her. "See you later, Baka."

"See you, Hotaru." She nodded with a tiny smile and turned to look at the door. I need to tell Otou-san about Okaa-san first.

Before she could knock on the door, the door swung open by none other than Narumi-sensei. He smiled in surprise. "Ah! Morning, Mikan-sama! You came at the right time."

"Morning. Narumi-sensei. Can I meet Otou-san before we go? I need to talk to him about something important."

Narumi-sensei blinked. "Of course, but you'll have to wait a while."

She nodded in reply.

He then led her into the teacher's office before leaving her alone.

She sat on one of the comfortable couches at the office as she waited.

After several minutes, Narumi-sensei appeared. He looked at her apologetically. "I'm sorry, Mikan-sama. Your father is still in a meeting."

"I see…" she muttered before sighing mentally. Being the head of the school must not be an easy job, after all.

Looking at her slightly sad face, Narumi-sensei added, "He said he will call you when he finishes."

She got up from her seat. "Thank you, Narumi-sensei."

Narumi nodded then smiled. "Well, we should go to the classroom now."

Together, they walked towards the door. When they were out of the room, Narumi complimented, "The mask looks good on you, Mikan-sama."

"Thank you, Sensei." She gazed at her feminine-looking blonde teacher. "And…"

"Yes?" Narumi looked at her expectantly.

"There's no need for you to call me so formally," she replied and walked ahead, not bothering with Narumi's answer.

The door was opened with such a loud noise that everyone looked at the door. Two good-looking boys were before the door, and then, shrieks from the fan girls filled the classroom.

"Kyaaa! Natsume-sama and Ruka-sama!"

"Natsume-sama got more handsome…"

"Ruka-sama also became cuter…"

"Natsume-sama, please be mine!"

A girl named Sumire Shouda proudly exclaimed, "What are you saying? Natsume-sama is mine since I'm the president of Natsume-Ruka fan club. I'm the only one that can be his perfect partner."

She approached Natsume with a smile. "Good morning, Natsume-sama. Please don't mind them. They still don't know that you are only suitable for me. And—"

Sumire stopped and screamed her lungs out as soon as her hair caught on fire.

Everyone sweat dropped. It happened again…

Sumire ran around the classroom like a headless chicken. "Argh! Put the fire out! Put the fire out!"

Yuu Tobita, the class president, splashed her with a bucket of water, and the fire was put out immediately.

"Oh no, my beautiful hair…" Sumire cried.

When will this girl ever learn? The class thought.

"Are you alright, Shouda-san?" Yuu asked worriedly.

Sumire sniffed. "I'm alright."

A loud bang from the front door startled everyone. It was Narumi-sensei, who walked into the classroom with a grin.

What a bad taste in fashion, everyone thought in disgust.

Narumi-sensei remained oblivious as he smiled after his dramatic entrance. “Morning, class.”

Suddenly, Koko excitedly shouted, “We have a new student!”

The class looked at Narumi-sensei with great interest.

The blond-haired teacher grinned. “Ah, yes. Class, we have a new student. She is the Head Principal’s daughter, so please be nice to her. She should have joined us two years ago, but because of private reasons, she was transferred to Gakuen Alice of United States, and now, she is back. I hope everyone will treat her nicely.”

“Please come in, Mikan-chan,” Narumi-sensei said while looking at Mikan, who was standing outside the classroom.

Mikan, who heard Narumi-sensei called her, walked into the classroom. When she stood in front of the class, everyone, except for Hotaru, Natsume and Ruka, had their mouth agape.

Nice expressions, Mikan thought sarcastically. She then introduced herself to the still silent class. "Mikan Sakura."

No one uttered a word, which Narumi-sensei felt very uncomfortable with and nervously asked, "Well, are there any questions for Mikan-chan?"

Mikan shook her head mentally. It looks like they're still in their own world.

The class remained silent and Narumi-sensei uncomfortably smiled. "Class?"

After a few moments, an announcement was heard on the PA system.

"Sorry for the interruption, Mikan Sakura, please come to the principal's office now. I repeat. Mikan Sakura, please come to the principal's office now. Thank you."

Mikan blinked. This is my chance to get away.

"Mikan-chan, it looks like your father is ready to see you. You can come back after meeting him."

She nodded and headed towards her father's office after glancing at Hotaru, who gave her a tiny nod.
