#01: Gakuen Alice (Natsume & Mikan)
...xXx...
...xXx...
Mikan folded her hospital gown neatly on her smartly-made ashen bed sheet. She then straightened her blouse and sighed in relief. Brushing her fringe aside, she was finally ready to get out of the hospital—hale and hearty."Come in," she said after she heard a knock.
Familiar faces entered the whitewash-painted room with a smile on their faces.
"Mikan-chan, we came to pick you up," Anna chirped as she skipped towards Mikan with the others close by. All of her friends came, except for Akira and Natsume.
Where are they? Mikan wondered silently. Her shimmering hazels met the emotionless gaze of her best friend. "Hotaru, where's Aki-kun?"
"He has something to do. He said he'll be visiting you tonight," Hotaru replied impassively.
Mikan pouted, but she nodded her head as she quietly sighed. "Oh, okay then."
"Ohhh… Akira-kun will be visiting Mikan-chan tonight? Is there something special going to happen?" Anna asked gleefully. She nudged Mikan at her arm naughtily and gave her a knowing look.
Mikan could only roll her eyes mentally. She failed to notice how Hotaru's once-emotionless purple eyes filled with pure sadness for a brief moment.
Yeah, something's definitely going to happen tonight, and it would be something unforgettable for the rest of our lives, Hotaru thought miserably.
Hotaru's facial expression was priceless. She had tried to say something, but she couldn't. Not until she had gained her voice back with her pride as an emotionless inventor.
"Hyuuga? Why?" Her cold voice almost tinged in shock, too. Her mind raced as she tried to reconsider Akira's words. It still didn't make any sense to her of his possibly impulsive decision on letting the infamous Natsume Hyuuga to replace him to protect his beloved fiancée.
"Hyuuga likes Mikan, Ru-chan. If it's him, I'm sure he could protect her and…" Akira voice trailed.
'And…love her,' his mind continued. It hurt him to know someone else would love his beloved fiancée. He loved her, too. He couldn't bear the thought of having others to love her and to be loved by her. The way he looked at it, Mikan liked Hyuuga, and it wouldn't be long before she loved him, too. His chest tightened in misery.
"Well, I think it was somewhat obvious that Hyuuga liked Mikan, but how sure are you that his feelings for her are true?" Hotaru asked curiously.
Akira immediately broke the eye contact with the poker-faced girl. He cleared his throat to find a way to tell her about the incident he saw earlier in the hospital room when Natsume and Mikan were alone. He told her briefly about it and waited for her reaction.
Hotaru's lips pursed and she took a chair beside her and sat. "Details please."
Akira had no choice but to tell her everything again in more details.
"… and after they kissed, Hyuuga just left her, mumbling something like 'sorry' to her. That's all, Ru-chan," he finished the story. "What do you think? He likes her, right?"
Hotaru gave him a crook smile. "If I've foreseen this, I would definitely be rich by now." She balled her fists on her lap and a smirk began to form across her face. "But of course, I would definitely get more rabbits after this." Her eyes now flashed with the sign of money…
'Is she really Mi-chan's best friend?' Akira asked himself as he sweat dropped. He gave Hotaru a deep scowl upon the sight of Hotaru rubbing her hands in pleasure.
"What will you do then?" Hotaru asked when she had calmed down. She was in a good mood, now. Money always had good effects on her body and mind.
"I'll talk to Hyuuga about this," Akira said, reminding her of his situation, and she was miserable again.
"When?" Hotaru asked quietly. Her questioning eyes were soaked in sadness.
"Tonight," Akira muttered quietly. It was until a little boy bounced on him that he realised they were not alone.
"Akira-nii-chan… why… why?" Youichi cried bitterly and wrapped his fragile arms around his waist.
Akira gently patted his head. "You-chan, be a good boy for your sister, ne?"
"So, I was right all along then," a deep voice crooned.
The three of them darted to the voice and saw a man in black was standing against the wall.
"Nii-chan!" Youichi exclaimed and ran towards his older brother and hugged him tightly.
"Nii-chan. Akira-nii-chan, Akira-nii-chan is…" Youichi sobbed in Persona's arms.
"Be a good boy, just like what Akira told you, Youichi," Persona hushed gently to calm his younger brother down.
"Persona-nii-san, thank you." Akira smiled at the man.
Hotaru approached the crying boy and knelt at his side to look at him.
"Don't cry any more, You-chan. We have to go to the hospital." Hotaru laid her hand on his cheek and wiped the tears off with her thumb.
"Akira, I hope that whatever that would happen to you wouldn't make my sister stop smiling," Persona said while staring at Akira.
"I hope so, Persona-nii-san," Akira whispered.
Silence crawled in, and only little sobs from Youichi was heard. Persona could only purse his lips, and Hotaru stared down on her feet. They were worried about Mikan's reaction. Akira rubbed his temple as it began to ache, thinking about their predicament. It was Persona, who broke the silence by clearing his throat significantly.
"I have to go," Persona said quietly as he had an urgent call for mission. He put his youngest brother on the bed, and soon disappeared out of the room in a flash.
"Nii-chan." Youichi pouted sadly as he was miserable because he didn't even have the chance to bid him goodbye.
Akira laid a hand on the little shoulder to comfort him. He then turned to Hotaru. "Ru-chan, tell Mi-chan that I'll visit her tonight."
Hotaru nodded. "Anything else?"
Akira shook his head. "That's all. Arigatou, Ru-chan."
Hotaru gave him a smile in reply.
Akira got up from bed and got dressed quickly.
Hotaru and Youichi waited for him outside of his room.
Once Akira was done, he joined the two of them and locked his door.
"Let's go," Hotaru said as she laid her hands on Youichi's shoulder. She turned to look at Akira, who nodded.
Just then, Natsume passed by them. Akira used this chance to stop him. "Hyuuga."
Natsume stopped on his track, his back was on the three of them.
"I need to talk to you," Akira said.
Natsume glanced at him sideways. He gave him a nod once and began to walk again. Akira followed him to the sakura tree while Hotaru and Youichi left for the Hospital.
"This is a nice place. I'm sure Mi-chan will like it," Akira piped up suddenly.
Natsume startled. That was random. He wondered why he suddenly talked about Mikan. He stared at the view before him. It was magnificent —the sakura petals fell gracefully with the wind and landed on the earthy floor of the forest greens beautifully. Little daisies which stood amongst them, dancing together with the smoothing breeze was also beautiful… I still don't get it. Why was Mikan mentioned? He was troubled upon the thought. The more he thought about it, the more irritated he got. His throat rasped in annoyance. "Just tell me what you want, will ya?" His patience was slipping away by the second.
"Don't talk to Mi-chan with that tone when I'm away," Akira retorted at once. His tone was harsh.
Natsume glared at the corner of his eyes; successfully saw Akira twitching in his place, his finger pressed in between his shut eyes. The words he said didn't make any sense to him. What is this guy talking about? Akira's words — 'when I'm away' — were echoing in his head. He started to find it extremely annoying. Before he could snap at him to ask what he was talking about, Azumi said something which paralysed him.
"Answer me honestly, do you like Mikan?"
What! Natsume chocked inwardly. That was, again, random. Why on Earth should he tell his feelings to someone, especially to him — Mikan's fiancé?! "What are you talking about? She's your fiancée. You shouldn't ask that kind of question," Natsume snapped at him, perhaps not as casually as always. His tone was somehow stained with jealousy. He tried to keep a straight face… Not that he expected anyone to read his stoic mask though. No one ever did manage to break that mask, not even Ruka. What happened to this guy's head? Did he bump to something? He hated it whenever someone started to get nosy about his personal life. He sighed exasperatedly and forcefully rolled his eyes to exert his gaze to another place… The thought of the girl whom he took interest with was already taken by the stupid guy sitting beside him, was making him even angrier.
"So you really do like her," Azumi concluded.
Natsume froze as his stupid, jealous voice had caused him blab his secret. Am I really that easy to read?
"I just want to tell you, please tell her how you feel about her because… no feeling will come across to others if you don't put them into words," Akira said at once.
"About Mi-chan, I leave it to you," he added before jumping off the branch and landed gracefully on the ground.
"Oi, I don't un—"
"I can't tell you the details, but you'll know it soon," Akira interrupted him immediately as he would not explain the details to him now. Not now. Before he left, he warned him, "Just remember one thing, Hyuuga. I won't let you live in peace if you ever, ever, ever make Mi-chan cry."
Natsume pursed his lips exasperatedly, I don't really have any clue on what he was talking about. He watched his figure left and wondered what he meant by 'when I'm away' again. Then, he gasped as a notion just stroke him. It can't be… He began to wonder if that was the reason. He gulped. Akira is going to… die? He smacked his forehead in chagrin. No, no, no, it wouldn't be happen. It wouldn't happen!
Mikan entered her spacious room and kept her stuff on the nearest couch. She gave Anna a smile. "I guess."
"Onee-chan, I'm hungry." Youichi pouted as he wrapped his little arms around her leg, staring up at her with those adorable eyes.
"Hmmm, I guess it's time for dinner," Mikan noted as she saw the clock on the wall read 7.30. She turned to her younger brother. "What do you want for dinner, You-chan?"
Youichi hummed as he rubbed his chin and stared probingly in the air. With a smile on his cute face, he chirped, "I like everything that Onee-chan make for me."
"Okay then, I'll fix something nice for you." Mikan smiled and touched him on his nose with the tip of her finger.
Youichi nodded with a grin. "Arigatou, Onee-chan."
"How about you, Hotaru?" Mikan asked her best friend.
Hotaru stared at her impassively. Her unnecessary silence told her that she was thinking.
"Anything will be fine," the inventor replied finally.
"Is it okay for us to join you for dinner, Mikan-chan?" Anna requested.
"Yeah, why not?"
"We'll help you then," Anna and Nonoko said in unison.
"Thanks," Mikan said, appreciating their help. Three of them started to walk towards the kitchen.
Mikan noted a troubling feeling that lingered in her chest. Why do I have the feeling that I will lose something? Out of the blue, Akira's face flashed on her mind. Gasping, she felt as though something bad was going to happen to him. She shook her head. Baka Mikan! You are thinking too much!
Familiar faces entered the whitewash-painted room with a smile on their faces.
"Mikan-chan, we came to pick you up," Anna chirped as she skipped towards Mikan with the others close by. All of her friends came, except for Akira and Natsume.

Natsume wasn't that sure about what Azumi wanted from him. What does he want to talk about? He swiftly jumped on the thickest branch and sat on it. He let one of his legs hang over the branch while he laid his arm on the other knee. Azumi, too, did the same. He was slightly impressed by his graceful moves."This is a nice place. I'm sure Mi-chan will like it," Akira piped up suddenly.
Natsume startled. That was random. He wondered why he suddenly talked about Mikan. He stared at the view before him. Anna admired Mikan's huge room as she twirled around. "Wow…! Your room is surely huge, Mikan-chan. Being a Special Star student must be nice. You can get everything inside your room."Mikan entered her spacious room and kept her stuff on the nearest couch. She gave Anna a smile. "I guess."

ReplyDeleteNicely done once again. A sad chapter. I feel sorry for Aki-kun. He's such a nice guy. I adore guys like him. His talk with Natsume was serious, serene, and held so much importance. Natsume is so easy to read sometimes. His stupid jealousy can get the best of him. Aki might haunt Natsume if he ever hurts Mikan. Mikan and Youichi are so cute.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work.
