I Wish: Chapter 1

#14: Gakuen Alice (Natsume & Mikan)

"Mikan Sakura," a white-winged, beautiful angel called out.
Mikan stepped forward as she replied, "Hai."
"You have passed the first two tasks."
Mikan grinned as she bowed to the angel. "Arigatou, Okaa-sama."
Yes, the angel before her was her mother, Yuka Sakura.
Yuka smiled at her only daughter gently. "You only have one task left before you can be recognized, dear. Remember the time limit."
Mikan nodded in reply. "Yes. I will complete the last task as soon as I can, Okaa-sama."
"I, Yuka Sakura, give permission to Mikan Sakura to start her third and last task," Yuka proclaimed.
Mikan gave her mother one last bow before turning and walking away from her mother to do her last task.
"No one is around," Mikan murmured as she approached the human fountain. The water of the fountain was flowing into a few holes in the grassy ground around it. She approached one of the holes as she peered through it. Actually, the hole was a transparent mirror. In fact, it was a special mirror to go to the Land of Humans.
The mirror showed nothing to her until she softly whispered, "Gakuen Alice."
A small smile formed on her beautiful face as she saw the Sakura Tree with a boy resting under it. She touched the mirror and the mirror expanded and became quite a big mirror that was fit for her to jump into.
Mikan was very well known, not only for her beauty that was worth a war to achieve but for her clumsiness, too.
As clumsy as ever, she didn't carefully balance her body, causing her other hand to slip and… she unwillingly fell down to the Land of Humans with a frightened face and tightly-closed eyes. She opened an eye then gasped as she realized she would crush the boy she was watching just now. And the only thing she could think of at the moment was screaming at the top of her lungs.
The Sakura Tree was the most peaceful and calmest place in Gakuen Alice, especially for a certain someone. Someone whose name is Natsume Hyuuga, and who was currently resting under the tree and enjoying the peace. His arms were used as his pillow, and his favorite manga blanketed his handsome face from the smile of the sun above him. Trees surrounded him, and the sound of the wind caressing the branches. But unfortunately, today would be different than yesterday and the day before because he heard something. To be exact, he heard someone screaming, and it was coming from… above him? A bit intrigued, he pushed his manga off his face, and his eyes nearly pop out from their socket.
What the… he thought in shock as he tried to push his body away from his current position, but he knew it was too late. He shut his eyes for the inevitable pain, but he felt nothing after a few moments. He opened an eye and gasped in awe. His eyes stared at the most beautiful creature in the world, an angel to be more precise. Yep, he was sure the person before him was an angel. It was because from the corner of his eyes, he could see the white feathers that were scattered around them, and the angel who had her eyes tightly closed was also floating above him. Their faces were so close, but he still could see her face clearly. The angel slowly opened an eye then gasped as both eyes opened wide, and she immediately moved away from him. Then…
BUMP!
The angel cried as the back of her head collided with one of the tree trunks.
Natsume sweat dropped and sat up. Never in his seventeen years of life had he met an angel that was so clumsy, not to say that he did meet one before. He observed the angel before him. He was sure that the angel had a pair of hazel eyes. From the long hair that was pooling around her, he guessed that her hair must have reached her knees. He furrowed his brows as he curiously wondered, An angel during the day? Am I going to die now?
He shook his head to push the thought to the back of his mind. He shouldn't think about that now.
"Oi," he called out.
The angel looked up at him. She rubbed the back of her head as she smiled sheepishly. She coughed once as she snapped her fingers, and her snow-white wings disappeared behind her back.
"I'm sorry about just now," she said apologetically and then paused as she murmured to herself, "I slipped and forgot to summon my wings."
He stared at her in disbelief. Although she said those words quietly, he could still hear it. She almost threw him out of the world when she smiled so brightly.
"My name is Mikan Sakura, un-official angel of First Class," she introduced herself.
He stayed silent as he tried to comprehend what she meant by "un-official angel."
"In order for me to become an official angel, I have to do my last task which is to grant a wish from a human," she explained. She paused again and tapped her chin as she tried to remember what she had to say. She had practiced the speech a hundred times but still forgot. Her face lit up when she remembered. "I've watched over you for a week, and you're the most suitable human for the wish."
He blinked.
She smiled and proudly stated, "Natsume Hyuuga, I, Mikan Sakura, will grant you one wish."
"Huh?" he replied unintelligently.
She hummed. "I think I'll give you some time to think about it first."
He didn't know whether he should be happy or not. An angel had come to fulfill one wish for him!
"I'll stay with you until you have decided what your wish is," she said again and snapped her fingers. Her white gown slowly changed into light pink one with Sakura petals at the hem. Her long brown hair had shortened up to her waist. She stood up and approached him. She offered him a hand.
He looked at her hand and then her face.
She smiled.
He took her hand and got up. When he stood in front of her, he realized that he was much taller than her.
She stepped back a bit, but her hands still held his. She opened his right palm.
He raised a questioning eyebrow but received no answer from her.
For a moment, she closed her eyes, and with her index finger, she drew a symbol that he didn't recognize. She let go of his hand afterwards.
He looked at her, puzzled. He then looked at his palm, and his eyes slowly widened. A rotating Sakura symbol appeared on his palm.
As he gazed at her, she explained, "With the symbol, I can come to you whenever you are ready with your wish."
He looked down to his palm. A wish? I do have a wish to be free from this school, but graduation is coming soon…
Not knowing what to do, he balled his fists and looked up at her but was surprise that she was no longer with him. She was gone. He felt the loneliness that was building up in his heart slowly overwhelm him. He sighed as she didn't tell him how to call her.
"Mikan…" he mumbled her name quietly.
"Yes?" a low voice replied.
He was startled as he hadn't expected an answer. When he looked around and found no one, he became confused. Where is she?
"Left shoulder," the voice told him.
He looked at his left shoulder and gasped. The mini version of the angel was sitting on his left shoulder.
She smiled. "You called?"
He looked away to hide his blush. Suddenly, he felt so embarrassed. He didn't mean to call her, but he did want to know where she was going just now.
"You said you have watched over me for a week. What did you see?" he finally asked her while walking back to his dorm.
She flushed and immediately replied, "I didn't see anything! I just watched over you when you did your mission for the school."
He stopped walking. She knew about him doing mission; that was why she decided he was the most suitable human for the wish. He suddenly felt insulted because she might have come to him because she pitied him. To be honest, he didn't need her pity at all. He unconsciously spat with a hint of anger, "I don't need your pity. Look for someone else for the wish."
She looked up at him with hurt expression. "Hyuuga-san, I didn't come to you because I pity you."
After flying in front of him, she sighed. As she snapped her fingers again, she changed into her adult form. She approached him slowly.
He looked away from her.
She smiled sadly and touched his face.
He froze as her hands felt so warm on his face.
She turned his face with both of her hands so that he looked directly at her. "I don't know why you have no luck with the Alice you have right now. I have come to you because you believe in me."
"Believe in you? I have never met you before." His anger almost vanished right away when he saw her smile.
"You believe in angels, don't you? We only come to those who believe in us," she said, and she slowly pulled his head down to her. She leaned his forehead to hers. She closed her eyes and whispered, "You're not alone, Hyuuga-san."
He closed his eyes as he held her waist and pulled her closer to him. He hugged her like his life depended on her. If he let go of her, he was afraid that he might die right away.
She felt she was somewhat dizzy as her heart beat so fast. She tried to calm down as she breathed in and breathed out slowly. Her heart beat did slow down, but the butterflies in her stomach did not go away. She was clueless about what was happening to her. Was it because this is the first time she came down to the Land of Humans? She wasn't sure. She shrugged away the feeling, and they slowly broke the hug. She smiled. "Please take your time to think about your wish. I will come right away when you call my name, Hyuu—"
"Natsume," he interrupted her.
She nodded her head.
"Can you grant my wish right now?"
"Yes, yes. Of course, I can."
"Anything?"
"Anything."
He looked away from her.
She tilted her head slightly as she waited.
He turned back to her. After taking a deep breath, he said, "I wish…"
