#15: Gakuen Alice (Natsume & Mikan)

Mikan closed her eyes while letting the tension in her body wash away as she sank into her queen-sized bed. She let her mind wander back to what happened between her and Youichi.
"How are you doing, Mikan?" Youichi asked while walking to the Sakura Tree.
Mikan leaned against the tree and smiled. "What do you think?"
"Have you told them about us yet?" He smiled in reply.
She shook her head. "I don't think it's important anymore."
"I see… Is it because I'm not important to you?" he asked with sad eyes.
"No, that's not what I mean. You are still important to me."
"But not the most important," he countered.
"I'm sorry." She looked at the ground as she felt guilty for hurting him.
He smiled and put his left arm above her head while looking at her face. "Please don't apologize. You will make me feel uncomfortable."
She looked up at him. "I'm sorry."
He raised an eyebrow at her apology. "Come again?"
She giggled as she always thought he was so cute when he raised an eyebrow at her. "It's nothing."
"Hm…" he hummed and took her right hand before bringing it close to his lips and kissing it while looking her in the eyes.
She blushed.
"I'm glad that I can still make you blush like that." He let go of her hand and caressed her left cheek.
"I missed you, Mikan," he said with great honesty in his voice.
As she closed her eyes, he leaned down and kissed her closed eyes.
"I missed you, too." She opened her eyes again.
He shook his head slowly. "No, you don't."
"Why is that?" She tilted her head.
He shrugged. "Why would you miss me when you were the one who broke up with me?"
Before she could argue, he continued, "I couldn't help but think that we were actually going out, Mikan. I know that it was just a trial, but still, I missed you."
"Can I kiss you?" he asked softly.
When she looked unsure, he assured her, "Just this once."
She bit her lower lip.
"Please…" he pleaded.
She sighed. "Okay…"
He thought for a while before asking again, "Will you?"
She looked at him in disbelief and almost groaned in annoyance. He was asking her to kiss him back!
"Why should I?" she asked.
He pouted. "Mikan, are you going to let me down now?"
"Oh, don't give me that face!" she scolded but not in a harsh manner.
He pouted even more. "Please…"
The longer she looked at his face, the more she couldn't resist his cute pout, so she sighed in defeat. "Alright, but only—"
Her words were muffled by his lips. He immediately assaulted her mouth with his tongue and pulled her close to his body. He kissed her while holding her as he tasted her sweet cavern. She let herself enjoy the kiss and put her arms around his neck while their tongues fought for dominance. She moaned as the kiss became more heated. Out of breath, they broke apart but continued to embrace each other.
He was about to kiss her again, but she stopped him by placing her hands on his chest. "Only once, Youichi Hijiri."
"You know you enjoyed it, too," he said, grinning.

Smiling, he slowly broke the hug. He leaned down again to give her a peck on the lips.
"I'll see you around," he said; however, before leaving, he cupped her face and whispered into her ear, "Remember that I won't give up on you, Mikan."
Staring at the ceiling, she asked herself, "What should I do now?"
Youichi Hijiri had confessed to her about two months ago. Strangely, he only approached her when the girls weren't around. That was why no one knew that they were going out. She wanted to reject him right away, but he asked for a chance. For the first week, she did come to know him better and even felt that she might be able to move on with him. The following week, she had come to accept Youichi, but she always felt that she was missing something. After their trial lasted for a month and two weeks, she finally decided to break it off. Nonoko began, "Youichi Hijiri, the most handsome and charming boy aside from Special in High School Class B."
Mikan rolled her eyes. "Thanks for the information."
"I can't believe it! You kissed him for crying out loud! Are you going out with him?" added Anna.

"Everything," Hotaru finished her unspoken words and stated, "Spill it."
Mikan sighed dejectedly and sat down on her bed. "Before I start, is there anyone other than you guys who knows?"
Anna and Nonoko glanced at each other. After a moment, they both looked at Hotaru.
Hotaru rolled her eyes. "Everyone."
"Everyone?" Mikan repeated while holding her breath.
Anna and Nonoko looked at her in sympathy and nodded their heads slowly.
Mikan groaned. She fell backwards onto her back and hid her face with her arms and muttered, "This is the worst…"
"Worst or not, you have to tell us everything," Hotaru demanded, and the two girls nodded in agreement.
"I guess there's no way out now." Mikan removed her arms. She stared at the ceiling and told them everything.
After telling them, she felt very tired and couldn't open her eyes anymore.
Hotaru grabbed a pillow and threw it at her face.
Mikan glared at Hotaru. "That was uncalled for!"
They stared into each other's eyes, and it was Mikan who broke their staring contest.
A tear slid down Mikan's face. She wiped it away, but it kept coming as sobs started to rack her body.
Hotaru sighed and approached her. She hugged her best friend and patted her back without saying anything.
Mikan finally let herself cry. There were so many emotions running in her head at the same time that she didn't know what to do.
Anna and Nonoko also tried their best to comfort Mikan.
The girls let her lay down on the bed after she fell asleep and covered her with a blanket.
"What should we do now?" Anna asked quietly so that she wouldn't disturb Mikan.
"It's best for us to wait and see," Nonoko replied thoughtfully.
Dumbfounded, Anna looked at Nonoko. She shook her head and turned to look at Hotaru. "What about you, Hotaru?"
Hotaru was staring at the sleeping Mikan. After a moment, she calmly replied, "I agree with Nonoko."
Anna sighed, and Hotaru continued, "Let Mikan solve this on her own. If things get worse, we will help."
"I guess you're right." Anna shrugged.
Out of the blue, Nonoko stated, "Youichi, he loves Mikan."
Two pair of eyes looked at her, and Nonoko grinned. After exchanging glances, Anna and Hotaru grinned, too, before looking at their sleeping friend.
"It will be interesting…" Hotaru mused.
Youichi smiled. "Good morning, ladies."
All girls sighed in admiration as their eyes turned into hearts.
Youichi went to his seat and sat down.
A girl approached him. "Youichi-sama, are you going out with Mikan-sama?"
The class went silent in anticipation as they waited for him to answer. Right at the time, the most popular boys made their entrance.
Natsume glanced at Youichi with his piercing eyes before walking to his seat with the rest of the group.
"So? Are you or are you not?" the same girl asked again.
Youichi smiled and brought his index finger to his lips. It was a form of telling her "It's a secret."
"Kyaaaaa…" the girls squealed in unison as they started chatting.
"Mikan-sama is so lucky to have Youichi-sama!"
"They both look good for each other."
The more Natsume heard, the more irritated he became. But then again, who was he to complain? It was his own fault, for his pride always got in the way.
The school was overridden with the news about Youichi and Mikan as both sides didn't give any confirmation about their relationship. Because of that, a group of people gathered around when they saw Mikan and the rest of the girls coming to the canteen.
A male high school student who was the leader of the group approached the Best Girl and gave her a small bow. "Sakura-san."
The loud canteen became silent. Everyone who was present in the canteen watched the interaction between Mikan Sakura and the group.
Mikan eyed the boy warily. "Yes?"
The boy smiled. "My name is Kira Hiroshi from the Gakuen Alice News."
Mikan pursed her lips subtly.
"We would like to have an interview with you regarding Hijiri-san," Kira said carefully.
"What about him?" Mikan asked while holding in her anger.
"We heard that you and Hijiri-san are in some sort of relationship," Kira started. "We would like to confirm it."
Clenching her fists, she spoke in a threatening manner, "Will you leave me alone as this is none of your concern?"
A few gasps were heard.
Kira smiled, unaffected by her warning. "I'm sorry if I have somehow offended you, Sakura-san. But I must remind you that whether you like it or not, you're pretty popular in this academy."
Mikan closed her eyes and mentally reminded herself that she should not scream in frustration.
Suddenly, the most popular boys made their way to the canteen. They stopped beside the girls as each of the boy went to their partner; Ruka to Hotaru, Koko to Anna and lastly Yuu to Nonoko.
Unnoticed by everyone, Kira's deep brown eyes sparked with interest.
Natsume and Mikan gazed at each other before looking at the brown haired boy before them. "What is this about?"
Kira narrowed his eyes at Natsume for a while and smiled. "Hyuuga-san, it's my pleasure to meet you."
"I'm Kira Hiroshi from the Gakuen Alice News," Kira repeated his introduction again. "I only wish to have an interview with Sakura-san."
Natsume narrowed his eyes, and Kira decided to continue, "It's regarding her relationship with Hijiri-san."
Everyone knew that Kira was trying to see Natsume's reaction. But again, Natsume seemed unaffected by it.
However, on the inside, Natsume felt his blood boiling in anger when his enemy's name was mentioned. That boy had become his enemy since he kissed his Mikan without his permission, but Natsume still wouldn't allow for anyone to touch her. Despite the turmoil in his mind, his face still depicted an indifferent mask which no one could see through, save for Ruka.
This is your chance, Natsume… Ruka mentally told Natsume as he remembered yesterday's conversation.
"So?" Ruka began when Special except for Natsume and Mikan gathered in his room. Hotaru, his girlfriend had requested to have a meeting, or a conference as she called it, to discuss the N-M Case. It never ceased to amuse him when she mentioned N-M Case, which was the short form of Natsume-Mikan Case. He didn't even know since when she had made that name. The funny thing was that he did have a round table that was suited for their conference. The boys laughed at him when they all realised this. They stopped laughing when Hotaru, Nonoko and Anna arrived.
Anna retold the story about Youichi and Mikan.
"We all have decided to let Mikan solve this on her own," Nonoko finished the story.
It was Hotaru's turn to speak, "Let Hyuuga solve this."
While holding her Baka Gun, she challenged the boys to disobey her.
They valued their lives, so they all agreed to let their leaders solve their own problems.
Since Kira received no response from Natsume, he dared to go on, "It looks like you and Sakura-san have some kind of relationship, too. Will you confirm that? Do you have any comment about this, Hyuuga-san?"
Anger had blinded him as he coldly replied, "I have nothing to do with her."
The moment the words slipped out from his mouth, Natsume snapped out of his anger. He froze mentally, but it was too late for him to take back the words. Not only Special but also everyone who was present in the canteen was shocked. The canteen filled with a very uncomfortable silence.
Natsume's words were like a blade that pierced straight through her heart, and Mikan felt she couldn't breathe at the moment. She felt like crying again. It was clear to her now. He really wanted to have nothing to do with her.
The silence was broken by someone who was slowly approaching the group. "Mikan?"
All of them looked at the source. It was Youichi Hijiri.
Koko shook his head in dismay. Just at the right time.
Mikan ran to him.
Youichi, who was unsure of what happened, could only wrap his arms around her.
Mikan hugged Youichi tightly as though if she let go of him, she would break down and die right away.
Youichi knew something bad had happened because Mikan would never hug him this tightly.
He then heard her whisper, "Away… Take me away…"
"Hold on," Youichi whispered softly to her ear, and she replied with a small nod.
Still hugging Mikan, Youichi looked at the small group before him. "I don't know what's happening here… But if this has something to do with me, please don't take it out on Mikan. She's my most important person, so I won't forgive anyone who dares to hurt her."
Everyone could see his cold eyes and knew that if they didn't comply, a painful death would await them.
With that said, Youichi left with Mikan, and Natsume cursed himself mentally.
