#02: Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Percy & Annabeth)
...xXx...
...xXx...
My name was irrelevant in this revelation, so I was not going to introduce myself. The topic of my self-inducted observation was none other than Percy Jackson. Now, I would not start about how he was good looking, kind, cute, funny, or any other positive trait because that would be too ordinary, as everyone, especially the female population in Goode High School, pretty much already knew he was the perfect boyfriend material. All of the girls had at least a tiny crush on him. Well, normally, people would say that there must be someone who might not feel the same way, but Percy was just a guy one couldn't hate. It was kind of difficult to explain in details, but the point was, that was just the way he was, and I didn't think anyone would want it any other way.
The day Percy entered Goode, I knew he was different. Either in a good way or a bad way, I couldn't really decide until a few years later. He was someone that I would like to call from nobody to somebody. Girls who finally noticed how he grew into such a young, handsome man and didn't care about his in-relationship status started lining up and asking him to go out with them, but unfortunately for them, he would always politely reject them. This just showed how loyal he was, and girls just loved that kind of guy. Anyway, that was not important. What I wanted to share was the conclusion of my observation: Percy Jackson was not a human. Okay, maybe he was, but he was definitely not completely one.
Let me start with how I came about this conclusion...
I knew about his dyslexia and ADHD, so it was not difficult for me to guess that he had troubles with studies. However, I started to notice something unusual about him. It was purely by accident when I saw him enter the national library with a blonde girl. I would be stupid not to know that the girl was none other than Annabeth, the famous girlfriend he had mentioned before. I had to admit that Annabeth was really a beautiful girl, and they both made a cute couple. The way Percy looked at her was enough to tell me that he loved her so much. Thankfully, Annabeth seemed to return the sentiment. Oh, how I wished to have their kind of relationship. Just like any other girl, I did have a crush on him, but I knew my place all right. He was just someone unattainable for a bookworm like me. Anyway, I had got over my infatuation months ago, so yeah, let us continue with my observation.
I highly doubted Percy would notice me because his eyes never wandered away from Annabeth for more than a minute, so I decided to tail them discreetly. What I found was quite shocking. Turned out, Percy Jackson was actually a smart student. It was only a matter of language. Such detail was almost missed, but I discovered how he was at ease reading a book written in Ancient Greek. It was then I decided to study Percy Jackson real close, but not close enough for him to be suspicious. When no one was around, I found out whenever he was frustrated, he would mutter curses in the same Ancient Greek. I was pretty sure about this because my grandmother -clears throat- also cursed in the same language when she was not happy. Based on what most of the student body knew about Percy, he had no history from a Greek-speaking family. Though, his biological father might have been one, but no one had heard about his father before. Besides, family matter should stay in closed doors, so no one really asked who his true father was.
The fact that Percy Jackson had difficulty with English but was good in Ancient Greek, a language that was rarely spoken in this time and era, was the first strange thing about him. And now, the next one might be unbelievable, but I swore it was true. I told no lies about it.
Many would think I was obsessed with Percy Jackson as I started following him around. Secretly, of course. I didn't need to draw anyone's attention. My study buddies would look at me as if I had grown another head if I told them about my true reason for following him, so I kept quiet about it. So, my next revelation happened when I was spying on him at our school pool. Percy was the swim team captain, so all of us knew that he loved water, a lot, but what I found was definitely not normal. Though I might be drooling while staring at his perfect body as he practiced, I didn't forget my purpose of following him. It was when everyone was leaving the pool that I finally found out about this fact: Percy Jackson could breathe under water. Ridiculous, wasn't it? Sadly, it was the truth. I knew this because I had been watching between him and my watch while he stayed under water for over an hour.
Now, everyone knew that no normal human could stay that long under water without drowning, so, to me, Percy Jackson was definitely not human. And my theory was proved right because of my next revelation.
This happened during our school trip to the most popular giant aquarium. They had added a couple of dolphins, so the school had arranged us to go and see the beautiful creatures. During our free roam in the facility, Percy was somehow left alone in this particular section of the aquarium, and it was then I saw something that made my eyes grow wide and my jaw drop in shock. Every sea animal seemed to be trying to draw Percy's attention. I could say this because they all seemed to follow him as far as they could. And when Percy turned to them, they all seemed to be talking as one that I vaguely heard him chuckle before saying, "It's nice to meet you guys as well. Though, I would want you to stop calling me 'My Prince.' The only prince you guys have is Triton, and I'm only—"
Whatever he was trying to say was stopped as the animals seemed to disagree with their frantic movements and all. After a while, Percy admitted defeat as he muttered, "All right, all right, I got it. Just calm down, okay?"
To my disbelief, they did what he asked and stopped moving frantically. I would have believed that I was dreaming if it was not because of the pain I felt after pinching my own arm. So yeah, after that day, I was convinced that Percy Jackson could talk to sea animals. That kind of talent just screamed not human and even more so when I made the connection with the sea, prince and Triton. In the end, my final conclusion was Percy Jackson could possibly be a demigod, or the son of Poseidon, God of the Sea, to be precise. I would love to know the truth, but I didn't think Percy would trust me enough to share his rather big secrets. Moreover, even if he could trust me, I didn't think I could handle whatever he was going to tell me without going crazy. I mean, I already had enough secrets to hide about him, so I would not go further just to make the list longer.
Even if my observation was true, and Percy Jackson was not a human, I wouldn't treat him any differently. If I told everyone about what I saw and heard, I would definitely cause unnecessary trouble for him. For a nice guy like him, I don't think I had the heart to ruin or disturb his peaceful life. I could only hope that no other, especially the bad guy, would notice what I noticed. We might not be close friends, but he was still my classmate. Of course, if he was a mean guy, I might consider exposing him, but thankfully, he was not. For that, I would turn a blind eye on what I had found out about him. And so, this was the end of my observation for Percy Jackson.
The End
