#02: Gakuen Alice (Natsume & Mikan)

Please be safe, Mikan, Hotaru thought worriedly. No longer than a minute, she heard someone step into the balcony. It was Mikan, with her blood-stained clothes.

"Mikan," Hotaru gasped as she, along with Koko, ran to Mikan. Both carefully carried Mikan to her bed.

"I told you to be careful," Hotaru scolded gently while quickly tending to the heavy bleeding from Mikan's right arm.

"It's okay, Hotaru. It's just… a little… cut…" muttered Mikan before she fainted.

"Looks like Mikan overused her Alice again," Koko concluded with a sigh.

Still bandaging Mikan's wounds, Hotaru spoke, "Baka, don't make anyone worry about you."

"She will be alright," Koko reassured, when he saw Hotaru's worried face.

After a moment, she quietly muttered, "I know…"

"Hmmm…" Mikan mumbled as she slowly opened her eyes.

"Good morning, Mikan. How are you feeling?" Koko, who sat on a chair beside her bed, asked quietly.

"Morning. I'm alright, Koko."

"Breakfast's ready. I already prepared your uniform," Hotaru informed her as she brought the breakfast to the table.

"I'm sorry." She was apologising for worrying both of her best friends.

Koko smiled. "Don't worry about it."

Mikan looked at the time and gasped. "Already this late!"

Hotaru began, "Why don't you try—"

"Owww…" Mikan cried out in pain when she tried to get up.

"— to calm down, Mikan. Your wounds are not fully healed yet," Hotaru finished her sentence even though it was already too late for her to say so.

"You don't have to hurry, Mikan. We already told Narumi-sensei about what happened, so just take your time," Koko informed.

"I don't think she's worried about homeroom time, Koko," Hotaru said emotionlessly.

"Oh yeah, your fiancé will join us today. Totally forgot about it, sorry," Koko said, teasing her.

"Don't you dare say it again," she threatened him with narrow eyes as a water ball appeared above her palm.

"I was just kidding, okay?" Koko said, raising his hands.

"Mikan, do you want to attend classes or not?" asked Hotaru, reminding her.

"Morning, class," Narumi-sensei greeted cheerfully.

"Morning…"

Yuu began, "Sensei, Mikan-chan is—"

"If it's about them, I already knew about it. Mikan-chan just came back from her mission last night," Narumi-sensei interrupted.

The class gasped. Mikan-chan was late which meant she must be wounded because of the mission.

Everyone is worried about you, Mikan-chan, Narumi-sensei thought with a smile. "Don't worry, Mikan-chan is alright." Seeing that the class finally calmed down, he announced, "Today we will have new classmates." He beckoned the three students waiting outside the classroom. "Please come in."

Everyone went silent for a second when they saw them and then…

"Kyaaa… the raven-haired boy is so cool!"

"The blonde boy is so cute!"

Ruka, who heard them, blushed and looked away from the class.

The class became noisier by the second while Narumi-sensei only sweat-dropped because of the class's reactions.

Stupid girls, Natsume thought annoyingly.

Narumi-sensei clapped his hand. "Now, now, please be quiet. Let the new students introduce themselves."

The class quietened, and Narumi-sensei gazed at three. "Please introduce yourself. Let's start from you, Shouda-san."

"My name is Sumire Shouda. I'm sorry, but I already have a boyfriend, who is Natsume-kun," Sumire introduced as she tried to hold Natsume's arms, but…

"Kyaaa…! My hair! My hair is on fire!" Sumire screamed while running around the classroom.

Some of the students gasped because they immediately knew what Natsume's Alice was while some of them sweat dropped while looking at Sumire.

"I never said you could touch me," Natsume growled, annoyed.

Then, before everyone's eyes, a floating water ball suddenly appeared right above Sumire's head and…

SPLASH!

"Oh no, my beautiful hair," Sumire cried in dismay.

Everyone became silent because they knew who had helped Sumire. It was none other than Mikan Sakura, who was standing before the door.

Mikan approached Sumire and offered a hand to help her. "Are you alright, Shouda-san?"

Sumire, who looked at Mikan's smiling face, slapped Mikan's hand, which was unfortunately the wounded arm, away. "Don't touch me!"

Mikan winced in pain, and Sumire was confused of her reaction as she didn't think it would hurt so much. Soon, the answer became clear when Mikan's bandaged arm under her shirt turned red and seeped through her sleeve.

What's with the wound? Natsume thought curiously while the class gasped.

"How dare you! Apologise to Mikan-sama now!" Mochu shouted, and the whole class became angry.

"Please stop it, everyone. I'm alright," Mikan said as she smiled to everyone in the class.

"Shouda-san is a new student, please treat her nicely, ne?" Mikan said again as she was trying to calm the class down.

Mochu began, "But, she just—"

"Please," she cut in.

In the end, the class obeyed her.

"Anna-chan and Nonoko-chan, will you assist Shouda-san?" requested Mikan.

"Of course, Mikan-chan," they replied in unison, and the three girls left the classroom.

"Mikan-chan, are you alright?" Narumi-sensei asked with a hint of worry.

"Yes, I'm alright. Don't worry," Mikan said with a smile and went to her seat with Hotaru and Koko behind her.

"Well..." Narumi-sensei began with an awkward laugh. "I guess we should continue the introduction. Ruka-kun, if you may."

Ruka nodded. "Ruka Nogi, Animal Pheromone Alice."

Do I need to introduce myself? What a troublesome day, Natsume thought, irritated.

"You don't have to introduce yourself," prompted Koko.

Mikan chuckled, and Natsume angrily thought, What's with this guy?

"What's with this guy?" Koko repeated and earned a death glare from Natsume.

You will never see tomorrow if you dare to read my mind again, Natsume threatened him.

Mikan only smiled when Koko mentally told her, He's scary, Mikan.

"Natsume-kun… will you introduce yourself now?"

Natsume glared at Narumi-sensei before facing the class. "Natsume Hyuuga."

"Now, who wants to become Natsume-kun and Ruka-kun's partner?" Narumi-sensei asked with a smile.

All girls, except for Mikan and Hotaru, raised their hands despite Natsume's cold demeanour.

"Oi," Natsume called Narumi-sensei.

Narumi-sensei looked at him. "Yes, Natsume-kun?"

After looking at his face, Narumi-sensei sweat dropped. Natsume just gave him a face that said if-you-dare-to-choose-one-of-those-girls-then-I'll-make-sure-you-get-a-taste-of-my-Alice.

I'm sorry, Mikan-chan, Narumi-sensei apologised mentally. "Natsume-kun and Ruka-kun's partner are Mikan-chan and Hota—"

BAKA! BAKA! BAKA!

"This is what you get when you pair me with a partner," Hotaru said monotonously.

"Free period for all of you," Narumi-sensei said while rubbing his forehead and ran away from the classroom.

Baka sensei, the class thought and sweat dropped.

Why did it turn out to be like this? Mikan sighed mentally.

"Stupid teacher, he didn't even say where to sit," Natsume said, annoyed.

"Natsume-san, Ruka-san."

Both looked at the source who was a spectacled boy. He smiled. "My name is Yuu Tobita, everyone calls me Iinchou. Pleased to meet you."

Ruka nodded in reply, and Yuu continued, "If it's about the seating arrangement, Natsume-san and Ruka-san can sit right behind Mikan-chan."

"I'm leaving, Ruka," Natsume said and walked out of the classroom.

Ruka ran after him. "Natsume, wait."

Not long after that, Jinno-sensei came to the classroom. "Mikan-san."

"Yes." Mikan nodded and walked out of the classroom while wondering what was wrong as she had never been called in the middle of homeroom before, free period or not.

As soon as she entered the office, someone greeted her, "Looks like you are doing fine, Mi-chan."

Mikan's eyes darted to the owner of the voice. It was none other than Akira Azumi, her beloved cousin. "Akira!" She ran towards him with a big smile. "I missed you," she said against his chest, hugging him close.

He hugged her back, mindful of her injured arm. "Miss you, too, Mi-chan."

"Mikan, I need to talk to you," another person said from behind. It was Izumi Yukihira, her father.

"Otou-san…" she greeted, facing him.

Her father nodded in reply. "Mikan, you will no longer attend this school as Mikan Sakura."

Mikan remained silent.

"Your fiancé is here. Although he doesn't know that you're his fiancée, he has to know you as Mikan Yukihira, do you understand?"

Just when Mikan was about to give a reason to refuse, her mother called her, "Dear…" Please… Yuka pleaded mentally while looking at her daughter.

Before leaving the room, Mikan replied, "I understand…"

"I'll go after her, Oba-san," Akira said before running after Mikan.

Yuka looked at her husband. "Anata, don't you think—"

"I'm sure she will understand, Yuka," Izumi said at once, and Yuka sighed in defeat.

...xXx...

"Mi-chan…" Akira called when he caught up with her. He hugged her from behind. "Everything will be alright…"

You don't have to hide from me, Koko, she thought after a moment. It seemed her childhood friends had followed after her as well.

Caught, Koko stepped out from the bushes and laughed nervously. "I'm sorry..."

Akira raised an eyebrow. "How long were you hiding there, Koko?"

"Yo, Akira! Long time no see." Koko grinned, and Akira mentally replied him, Yeah, long time no see...

"It's not your fault, Baka," Hotaru said while approaching her with a silver-haired boy.

"Mikan-nee..." the boy muttered worriedly. "Are you alright?"

"Yes, You-chan." Mikan smiled at him. "It's just... I'm going to attend the school as Mikan Yukihira now."

"Really?" Youichi asked happily, and Mikan nodded with a hum.

Youichi pointed his little finger to Akira. "Who is he, Mikan-nee?" The only one who can hug Mikan-nee is Natsume-nii.

Mikan smiled upon reading his thought and looked at Akira, who stepped forward. "Akira Azumi. Nice to meet you, You-chan."

"Akira is my cousin, You-chan," added Mikan with a smile.

"Oh…" Youichi mumbled to himself.

"When will you do it?" Hotaru inquired quietly.

"Tonight," Mikan replied sadly. Tonight will be the last time they will know about Mikan Sakura…
