My Favourite Girl: Chapter 4

#05: Gakuen Alice (Natsume & Mikan)

It was Sunday, so no one was around. He then decided to go to Central Town alone, but on the way, he saw his favourite girl with Akira Azumi. Eavesdropping was not his habit, but he was curious to what their conversation would be.

"I thought you won't attend the ball, Mikan," Akira began.

While eating her howalon, Mikan plainly replied, "Yes, I also thought that."

"Who is he?"

I'm sorry, Akira. I can't tell you who he is. She lied, "I don't know. I only know his nickname is Raven.”

Akira gazed at his beloved cousin. Mikan…

So she hasn't found out who I am, huh? Natsume smirked, satisfied and went to his sakura tree.

Natsume was resting at the tree's branches when he heard someone's voice.

Azumi? he noted mentally. They were close to his sakura tree.

"Mikan, wait for me!" Akira exclaimed as he walked faster to catch up with Mikan.

Mikan stopped her tracks for a while before walking again.

Akira grabbed her left shoulder once he caught up with her.

Sighing, she closed her books and faced him. "Akira—"

Akira interrupted her by hugging her.

Her eyes widened when Akira hugged her tighter. "I love you, Mikan."

Everything stayed still as if time had been stopped.

Natsume's eyes widened, shocked.

Mikan was speechless.

After a few moments, everything returned to normal.

"Not as a family. I’ve loved you since we met," Akira continued as he closed his eyes.

Mikan's eyes softened. I know that, Akira.

Akira broke the hug. "I know you don't feel the same, so you don't have to say anything. I just want to let you know… I love you, Mikan Sakura."

The wind was blown softly and the sakura petals scattered around them. Akira broke the stillness between them with a sad smile. "I’ll see you around."

As he left, she wanted to chase after him, but she might hurt him even more.

"I'm sorry, Akira," she muttered quietly before making her way back to her room.

I can't believe it. Why he has to confess his love near my sakura tree? Natsume cursed under his breath. When he reached his room, he laid himself on the bed and closed her eyes. Can I have that courage to confess, too?

"Natsume-nii," Youichi greeted when he saw Natsume step into the classroom.

Natsume replied him with a nod. It went unnoticed by him that his favourite girl was also in the same ability class as he, and Akira sat next to her.

So, her Alice was Wind, huh? he thought. He sat on his own seat and remembered yesterday confession that truly unnerved him. Deciding not to think about it again, he took out his manga and read it.

Slowly, everyone filled the classroom, but they were all busy with themselves. Suddenly, the sounds of high heels echoed through the room, and everyone shifted their eyes to the source. Stood before them was a black-haired girl. Half of her flawless face was covered by a black mask that had a red rose at the edge. She wore an entire black suit with her hair tied in high ponytail. Everyone could guess that the girl in front of them was around their age. The class stayed silent.

What is it? Natsume thought curiously because of the sudden silence. He took a peek through his manga, and his eyes widened in shock. Black Rose.

"Good day, Persona-sensei had been transferred to other branches of Gakuen Alice. I'm your new adviser starting today," she stated coldly.

Everyone stared at her.

"What's your name, Kawaii-chan?" one of the students asked playfully.

The others started chuckling because of it.

Natsume remained silent.

She stared at the boy. "Kawaii-chan?"

"You look so cute, so I called you Kawaii-chan," the boy replied with a shrug of his shoulders.

The rest laughed, made fun of her. The laugh, however, became gasp when they witnessed the books that near the boy turn to dust. Everyone gulped in horror because they knew someone who had the same Alice. It was their previous DA adviser Persona.

"I'm sorry for not introducing myself early. Black Rose is my codename." Her voice was cold like ice.

Another gasp escaped from their lips. Everyone from DA class knew about her, the professional assassin for the academy.

"In case you’re wondering why I became your new adviser, I shall tell you that Persona-sensei is… my older brother."

Everyone froze. They had never known their DA advisor had a little sister who was also the famous Black Rose.

"Do whatever you like but keep this in your mind. I won't accept any kind of troubles from this class. If one of you makes trouble, then each and every one of you will be punished since you did not remind your friends to keep out of troubles. That's all for today."

Closing her eyes, she vanished from their sight just like their previous adviser.

The Black Rose became our new adviser… Is that the reason why she became my partner in my latest mission? Natsume pondered. He could guess that Persona wanted to introduce his little sister or Black Rose to him. He furrowed his eyebrows. What for? Does this mean I will become her partner again? Come to think of it, Black Rose is also a student in the academy… I might be able to find— he stopped himself. Why would it matter? Black Rose meant nothing to him, unlike his favourite girl. Still, he found himself start comparing the two girls.

The class remained silent. They were happy because Persona weren't their adviser anymore, but the news about Persona's younger sister Black Rose became their new adviser dampened their happiness. No one paid attention when 'Mikan' and Akira left the ability classroom.

"Mikan, are you all right?" Shiro asked worriedly.

Mikan nodded. "I'm all right. I just doubted that I could handle the DA class like Aniki." She sighed as she sat down on one of the couches and closed her eyes.

Shiro smiled at Mikan. "I'm sure you can do it, Mikan."

"I hope so," she mumbled quietly and took off her black mask. Slowly, her hair colour turned brown and her attire changed to her high school uniform. The mask she used was made by herself to shorten the time for her to change each time she had a mission.

After a few minutes, a knock came from the door and revealed 'Mikan' and Akira. Both of them approached Mikan.

Akira smiled. "You did it well, Mi-chan."

Mikan returned his smile. "Thank you." Putting back her upgraded tick glasses, her hair was adjusted automatically to pig tails. After that, 'Mikan' slowly made her way to her and merged herself into her. Mikan closed her eyes for a few seconds before standing up. "I'm going to the library. See you, Shiro-kun, Aki-kun."

Without waiting for their answer, she walked out from the office.

Hours later, leaning onto the door, Mikan closed her eyes.

She was still occupied with her own book, so she didn't know someone approached her. She might be a professional assassin for the academy, but she always let her guard down when she was in the academy, the only safe place for her since no one knew about her identity as Black Rose.

When someone tapped her shoulders, she turned around.

Hazel orbs met the sapphire orbs.

When she was about to say something, Akira beat her to it, "I'm okay, Mikan. But, can I ask you something?"

She nodded, permitting him to continue.

"Do you have any feelings for Raven?"

Silence engulfed both of them immediately even though the library already filled with silence.

He smiled at her apologetically. "I'm sorry. I just couldn't find any reasons which made you agree to become his partner for the ball. I thought—"

"No, I don't," Mikan interrupted. Somewhere deep inside her heart stirred when she said those words. She closed her eyes again and remembered Natsume's crimson eyes. She opened her eyes again and told herself, 'I don't have special feelings for him because his eyes remind me of 'him'…'

"Aniki…" Mikan muttered quietly and walked towards her computer. Sitting in front of the computer, she started typing various codes which only could be understood by her. After a few minutes, she walked to the dining room. "Are you awake, Ren?"

"For you, always, Mikan-sama," Ren replied almost instantly.

She poured a cup of coffee for herself and sipped the coffee slowly while sitting on one of the chairs. Putting her cup down, she watched the steam that formed from her coffee. Thoughtfully, she asked, "Ren, are there any new mission for me?"

"Yes, Mikan-sama. Your target is one of the AAO supervisors. You will have to kill him in the next two days at America. Are you going to accept this mission, Mikan-sama?"

Mikan grinned. "Yes. I accept the mission." True, she was the professional assassin for the academy, but she could decide if she wanted to do the mission or not. No one dared object her freedom to choose since she could kill anyone without any exceptions. "Help me record the code I've typed just now, Ren."

"Where do you want to record it?"

"Record it in the new folder under DA class folder."

She walked to her bathroom, preparing to sleep for the day.

"Good night, Ren," she said when she walked out from the bathroom and climbed to the bed.

Ren turned off all lights. "Good night, Mikan-sama."

Natsume wrote a small note for his neighbour or his favourite girl. Early in the morning, he slowly made his way to his favourite girl's balcony. Right after he stepped to the balcony, Mikan called his name. He froze for a few seconds. Slowly, he turned to look at the girl. To his surprise, Mikan didn't wear any disguise, so he could see her clear hazel eyes with long brown hair hanging behind her back. She was just like when she attended the ball but without the mask. He held his breath when she asked, "What are you doing here, Raven? Or should I say, Natsume Hyuuga."
