My Candy: Chapter 2

#08: Gakuen Alice (Natsume & Mikan)

"Good morning!" Narumi-sensei chirped happily.
As usual, the class ignored him. Inchou raised his hand, and everyone in the classroom became silent.

"Yes, Inchou?" Narumi-sensei asked sweetly.

The class sweat dropped as Inchou asked, "Sensei, Mikan-chan—"

"She's not feeling well today. Imai-san is with her right now," Narumi interrupted him.

The class started whispering to each other. It was not a secret anymore that Mikan always took a day off once in a month. The truth was they never knew the real reason. And it was unbelievable that she would always be sick once every month.

Mikan glanced at her best friend. "Hotaru, everyone has become suspicious of me…"

Hotaru sighed. "It can't be helped. You have always taken a day off each month for the last three years now."

"What should I do now?"

Hotaru petted her head. "You know what you should do, right?"

Mikan hummed before closing her eyes. Not long after that, she heard the bell ringing. Homeroom is over!

"Where are you going?" Hotaru asked emotionlessly when she sat up from her bed.

Mikan sweat dropped. "Hee-hee..."

Hotaru sighed mentally before saying, "Remember to come back before 12, Mikan."

"Yes, yes," Mikan replied. She jumped down from her bed and walked to her balcony. Upon reaching the the balcony, she leaped down to the ground. She wasn't injured for jumping down from the 4th floor without using her Alice. It was simply because she was a cat at the moment. Her reason for taking a day off each month was because of this form. Every full moon, she would transform into a cat. A special cat that can talk, but of course, she only talks to Hotaru as no one is going to believe that cat can talk. When it was not a full moon, she can always transform into another form, but it could be prevented by her candy. It was a candy that was especially made by a friend of her father. Unfortunately, it can only hold her transformation for an hour, so she has to eat the candy every hour. No one noticed that the candy she ate regularly was a special candy that suppressed her cat form.

Like always, our fire caster was sitting under the Sakura tree with his favourite? manga. Feeling another presence, Natsume looked up and saw the golden-haired cat.

Unknown to him, it was Mikan.

Natsume smiled. "Are you here to accompany me again?"

I have accompanied you every day, but you've never smiled like today! she thought annoyingly. "Meow…"

Truth to be told, he never smiled when she was around him as he wouldn't let himself go out of character. He was quite clueless for not noticing that when she was absent, the golden-haired cat would come to accompany him.

He petted her head. "You always stay with me… just like her."

Of course I'll always stay with you, because, I'm Mikan! "Meow…"

"She didn't come to class today. They have just noticed her 'sick leave' routine after all this time," he said, still petting her head.

He's talking about me…

He softly muttered, "I miss her."

I also miss you, Natsume. She blushed mentally. "Meow…"

"Thanks for being with me," he said with a smile.

You're welcome, Natsume. "Meow…"

"I wish I could say those words to her but…" he began.

What am I thinking about? he asked himself before shaking his head in disbelief. He was pathetic for confessing his feelings to a cat instead of the real person. She may see him as a friend, but he liked her more than a friend. Again, he sighed.

Something is troubling him… She looked at him worriedly. "Meow…"

"Sorry, didn't mean to ignore you. You will stay with me until sunset, right?" he asked.

As long as you are happy, Natsume. I will stay with you, always. She smiled. "Meow…"

"Morning, everyone!" Mikan greeted cheerfully.

Everyone looked at her, but no one greeted her back.

It's time, huh? Mikan thought sadly. She smiled at the blond boy. "Morning, Ruka-pyon."

Ruka smiled back. "Morning, Mikan-chan."

Walking to her seat beside Natsume, she greeted him, and as always, she received the "Hn" from him.

A few minutes later, Narumi-sensei came. "Morning, class."

Some of the class replied him.

Narumi-sensei looked at Mikan. "Mikan-chan, how are you feeling?"

Mikan smiled. "Great. Thank you, sensei."

Right after she replied Narumi-sensei, Jinno-sensei appeared before the door. He looked at Narumi-sensei. "Mikan Sakura."

The class started whispering to each other while Natsume looked at her worriedly as she left the classroom.

Sitting on the chair in front of her was Shiro Yamazaki, the head principal of Gakuen Alice Japan.

"Please sit down, Mikan-chan." Shiro smiled.

Mikan sighed. "I know what I should do, Shiro-kun."

"I'm sorry, Mikan-chan."

"No. You don't have to. I know it's time."

"Have you decided then?"

She gave him a small nod. "Yes. I'll do it tonight."
