#03: Inuyasha (Sesshōmaru & Kagome)
...xXx...
...xXx...
A week after he decided to marry Kagura, he lost his only best friend Kagome. He never knew what the reason of her sudden disappearance was. What irked him most was he did not have a single clue where she had gone to. They had known each other for seven years, but aside from the fact that she was not from a well off family, he felt like a complete stranger who knew nothing about her. Though, within the seven years they had known each other, he only met her once or twice a month since he often travelled across the globe for his job.
As if losing his best friend was not enough, two weeks before his wedding, he found out Kagura couldn't keep her lust at bay. Thankfully, he had never touched her. He would have never known those facts without an unknown stranger who sent Kagura's activities behind his back. For whatever reason this stranger did this, he was thankful. If it was up to him, he would make sure the wind demoness suffered and died painfully for dishonouring his name, but since this was the modern era where they were not allowed to kill without consequences, he let the whore go. Oh, he could do whatever he wanted, but it was too troublesome when he had to deal with humans and their rules.
He looked up at the grey clouds thoughtfully. Usually, he would have spent this day with Kagome, sharing his experiences spent travelling. He would never admit this out loud, but he missed her. It had been two years since he last saw her in this little restaurant, where they always met up.
"Enjoy your meal, Sesshōmaru-san."
Sesshōmaru looked at the middle-aged okami Sasaki-san and nodded his thanks. Although Kagome was not here with him, he still came, hoping to meet her again. Upon taking his utensils, the small bell of the restaurant chimed, and his eyes automatically looked up. He was disappointed when it was not Kagome. It was a raven-haired woman who was dressed in typical office lady attire. Black pencil skirt with white blouse. She was another regular customer since Sasaki-san immediately greeted the woman. He would not care what they were talking about until they mentioned her name. While absent-mindedly having his meal, he listened to their conversation. If he had not been a demon, he would not have been able to hear anything. Now, eavesdropping was not his habit, but he needed to know where his Kagome was. They might be talking about a different Kagome, but he doubted Sasaki-san knew more than one Kagome, so it had to be his Kagome they were talking about.
"So, how's Kagome-chan?"
"Nervous."
He frowned. That was hardly the Kagome he knew.
"Well, you can't really blame her for being nervous. This is, after all, her first flight to another country."
"Yeah." Sango sighed. "I really hope this time she will get a real guy who can appreciate her heart. I wonder what she sees in him when he's so blind not to see her love for him."
Sasaki-san quickly replied, "Lower your voice, Sango-chan."
Sango merely shrugged but did not say anything.
"So, where is she going?"
Sango grinned. "France, the city of love."
"I'm sure she's excited."
"Not really."
Sasaki-san blinked. "Why is that?"
Sesshōmaru's breath hitched when he heard the next words.
"Ayame told me Hojo seems determined to propose to Kagome once they land in France. That co-pilot has been smitten since the day she joined the company."
Sesshōmaru did not know what had possessed him to come up to them. While ignoring their surprised gasps, he quietly demanded, "Where is she?"
Sango, who did not like the way he interrupted their conversation, glared at him. "It's already rude enough to eavesdrop, but to interrupt—"
Sasaki-san clamped her mouth shut, preventing whatever insults the young woman wished to say from coming out. The elderly woman smiled. "Who are you asking for, Sesshōmaru-san?"
He frowned. Surely, the older woman knew for whom he was asking.
"If it's Kagome-chan, I'm sorry, Sesshōmaru-san. It is not our place to say anything."
A low growl escaped his throat. "You will tell me this instant. Where is she?"
Too bad for him, both women refused to say another word, unwilling to yield under his hard glare. It took every bit of control in him not to lash out, but then he caught a sight of the key-chain on the woman's black purse. He knew the owner of the flight company and left the restaurant immediately. He needed to find her.
Unknown to him, after he left, Sango and Sasaki smiled at each other. Sango took out her cell phone and called her employer and husband. "He's coming, Miroku."
Miroku smiled wistfully at the door of his office. "Thank you, my dear."
As soon as he put down the phone, Sesshōmaru broke into his office. He smiled. "What a surprise, Sesshōmaru-sama."
Not wanting to beat around the bush, Sesshōmaru blatantly stated, "I need information on your employee."
Miroku blinked innocently. "I'm afraid I can't do that unless you tell me why you need it."
Sesshōmaru gritted his teeth. "Don't test my patience, Monk."
"Now, now, you need to know that as a good employer, I can't share my employee's details without a good reason."
Sesshōmaru's eyes flashed red, and Miroku, who saw it, only smiled. The dog demon was definitely on edge, so it was best not to play around. He sighed in defeat. "Alright. Who are you looking for?"
"Kagome Higurashi."
Miroku glanced at the screen of his laptop. After a few clicks of his mouse, he turned to him. "What do you want to know?"
"Location."
"She's currently flying back here from Osaka."
Within seconds, the demon lord was gone, and Miroku made a phone call. The owner picked up at the second ring. He smiled. "It is done, Takahashi-sama."
"Good. I appreciate your assistance."
"You're very much welcome."
With that said, both hung up. Miroku smiled to himself. If Sesshōmaru knew what had happened, he would be absolutely furious. Sesshōmaru might not need his family's approval for what he did, but his sire surely watched over him and wanted the best for his eldest son. After Sesshōmaru proposed to his ex-fiancée, he, under Takahashi-sama's demand, offered Kagome a job at his company as a flight attendant. The former demon lord seemed to know Kagome held special feelings for his eldest son and wanted to help the young woman to heal from her broken heart. It went without saying that Takahashi-sama loved Kagome as a daughter even though they had only met coincidentally a couple times. Since a new guy was trying to win Kagome's heart, Takahashi-sama had planned to lure his son back to her. Who would have thought that the plan would work out so smoothly? Though Kagome was only a close friend of his wife, he wished the best for her.
...xXx...
Sesshōmaru was no coward, but he stood a bit far from the arrival gate. He didn't know what to say to her. After all this time, he never felt this nervous just anticipating meeting her. His heart beat faster when the last passengers left the plane. The moment he heard her voice after a long two years, he silently took a deep breath. He was unprepared when her appearance took his breath away. He had never known that Kagome could be so breathtakingly beautiful in her dark blue, flight attendant uniform. She was chatting animatedly with a wolf demoness as she made her way out of the gate. Her smile was what he missed the most.
"Ne, Kagome-chan, are you ready for Hojo-kun's proposal?" That question snapped him out of his wandering minds.
"Don't be silly, Ayame-chan. He won't propose to me. I mean, we barely know each other."
Ayame grinned. "Is that so? Didn't he often ask you on a date?"
"It's only a few dates. Nothing serious, I can assure you."
"What if he really proposes to you?"
He was ready to interfere when Kagome suddenly replied, "I can't. I'm not ready."
Ayame looked at Kagome sadly. Though she didn't know the details, she knew the outline of her story. "You should forget him, Kagome-chan."
Who was him? He also heard the same thing from that woman Sango. His gut twisted at the thought that Kagome already loved someone he did not know.
Kagome smiled ruefully. "I know I should forget him. I mean, he's married and most probably has a child already."
He clenched his fists. She likes a married man?
"When was the last time you saw him?"
"Two years ago... when he told me that he was going to marry his girlfriend."
He froze.
"Are you sure he's a demon?"
Kagome made a weird face. "Yes. Why?"
"He must be the densest demon I have ever heard. If he's a demon, he should be able to see your feelings for him."
"Hey! Don't say something like that. He's a good demon, and you don't even know him."
Ayame sighed. "Alright, alright, I'm sorry. That was uncalled for."
"Kagome-chan!"
Both stopped near his position and turned around to the source. It was a young pilot.
Ayame grinned wickedly. "I guess I'll go first. See ya, Kagome-chan!"
"Ayame! Wait! You don't have to—"
"Kagome-chan?"
Kagome smiled nervously at the man. "Hojo-kun."
Sesshōmaru never realised that his claws had already pricked through his palm, enough to draw blood.
A soft blush appeared on the young man's face. "Tonight is your first flight to France, so I—"
"Kagome."
Both stopped short before turning to him.
"Sesshōmaru…"
The way she whispered his name was enough to ease his anger, but not entirely. He glared at the human boy who immediately backed away a few steps.
"I'll see you tonight, Kagome-chan," he said hastily before leaving.
He was startled when Kagome suddenly grabbed his hand. When he looked at her, a frown marred her face.
"Did you hurt yourself?"
He did not bother answering as she immediately pulled off the scarf that was around her neck and tied it around his almost healed palm.
She smiled at him. "It's been a while, but I really want to know. What are you doing here, Sesshōmaru?"
"Coffee?" he asked instead.
A small laugh escaped her pouty lips. "Sure. I still have several hours before I get ready for my next flight."
They both made it to a nearby coffee shop in silence. Soon, two cups of hot coffee were on their table.
"So… how have you been?" she started softly.
"Why?"
She blinked in confusion. "I'm sorry?"
"Why did you leave without saying anything?"
Her blue eyes flashed with ire, but she remained calm. "I didn't know that my presence was so important to you."
Kagome never saw herself as Sesshōmaru's close friend. He always called when he felt like it and came and left as he pleased. She always thought she was just a simple entity to help pass his time while he was in Tokyo. How she could fall in love with him, she did not know. He was a demon lord, and she was just a mere human miko. From the beginning of time, both were natural enemies. She knew this, but she couldn't help but become attracted to him.
Sesshōmaru gazed at the woman before him closely. It was true that he had never told her that she was his only best friend. Not until she suddenly went missing did he realise that he needed her in his life. True, he had Kagura, but he only deemed her a perfect bitch to give him an heir. Their mating involved no feelings since the beginning. That was why he let Kagura go without compensation. He could easily find a replacement for the loss. Since when Kagome had become the most important part of his life, he did not know. He only knew that without her, he felt he had no purpose in life. Right at this moment, he realised just how much he had been looking forward to returning home. It was because of Kagome, who was there for him, always waiting for him. As much as he hated to admit it, he begrudgingly agreed with that human woman that he was blind. He couldn't see her deep, but silent love for him. And he, without realising it, loved her, too.
Kagome sighed. "If you're not going to say anything, I should probably go. I don't want your mate to think I have a thing with you."
"Do you?"
She froze. After a tense silence, she sighed again. For whatever reasons, she felt so tired. "I did."
"You're lying."
Furious, she glared at his emotionless face. "Does it matter to you? I'm sure you have heard my conversation with Ayame. If making fun of me is what you want to do, I shall—"
"It does." He stated while looking into her blue eyes. Those eyes hid nothing from what she was feeling.
Confusion filled her eyes as she whispered, "What are you trying to say?"
"It does matter because this Sesshōmaru wishes to court you."
After a short pause, she let out a mirthless laugh.
He frowned.
Standing up, she gathered her things and hissed, "I refuse to be your human whore, Sesshōmaru."
Golden eyes widened briefly as he couldn't believe she would think he was going to make her his whore. Right at this moment, he was going to make her revise that statement. Slightly annoyed, he captured her wrist and half-dragged her away from the crowd. They needed to talk about this matter alone. Fortunately for him, aside from trying to break free from his tight grip, she didn't make a fuss. Soon, she gave up trying and let him lead them away. That was what he had expected. To his luck, he found a perfect place for them to talk. As he cornered her, she looked away from him. Her face showed her displeasure. With little warning, he reached forward and pulled her small form against him before devouring her lips. Her surprised gasps gave him the opportunity to taste her further. The shock must have passed as she slowly returned his kiss. He groaned as she fought for dominance. Knowing she was only human, he released her. He almost smirked when she seemed disappointed at the lost contact.
"The deal is off." Hugging her close, he murmured to her ear, "Be my only mate, my only wife, and the only mother of my pups, Kagome."
It was too soon, but he had to make his moves soon or risk losing her again. When he smelled her tears, he pulled away, slightly panicked. However, as he saw her bright, happy smile on her face, he knew those droplets were happy tears. Upon seeing her nod and agreement, he believed luck was with him again.
And that luck was his Kagome.
