"Yuzuru..."
"I heard you."
CRACK
"Be careful."
"I know."
CRACK
"Yuzuru."
Yuzuru laughed nervously. "Don't worry, Kanade."
Golden eyes looked up at Yuzuru worriedly as she heard another crack. "Forget about it."
The red-headed schoolboy shook his head before reaching out for the straw hat. It was Kanade's. Because of him, she had lost it. It happened when he dragged her along with him and the others to go fishing. Somehow, the hat had gotten stuck high in the tree. So, this was what he was doing: trying to retrieve her hat back. Well, if he happened to fall, he would not die, but he would surely feel the pain. For Kanade, he wouldn't mind feeling a little bit of pain as long as she didn't tend the garden without her hat. A triumphant smile formed on his lips as he finally managed to grasp the hat. Unfortunately, his smile didn't stay long as he lost his footing. Eyes widening, he felt himself fall. Uh-oh.
He looked over his shoulder and saw Kanade open her arms, ready to receive his falling body. "No!"
Soon enough, their bodies collided painfully. Kanade's small frame cushioned his larger form on the ground. He felt pain but hastily got off of her. Seeing her closed eyes and unmoving body, he quickly fanned her with the straw hat while gently patting her cheek. "Kanade... Kanade...!"
Yuzuru released the breath he was holding when her eyes slowly fluttered open. He let his head fall on her belly. "Please don't scare me like that again."
Kanade combed his red hair with a small smile. "Are you all right?"
He took her hand and placed it on his cheek while sitting up. "I should be the one asking you. Are you all right?"
"Un."
He helped her up and let her lean on his chest while he leaned against the tree. They stayed like that for a long time.
"Sleepy..."
Yuzuru wrapped his left arm around her small waist and pulled her into his lap. "Sleep."
Still holding her, he, too, soon followed after her. An hour or so, Hinata, who was yelling his name, woke both of them up. There was no doubt that the blue-haired boy was looking for him. They got up and patted their uniform clean.
Kanade looked around for her straw hat but didn't find it. "Yuzuru... I—"
A defeated sigh from Yuzuru made her look at him and then at where he was gazing. Her hat had magically gotten stuck up in the tree again. Though, this time, it was on the left side instead of the right. She chuckled while he smiled at her.
He shrugged. "I guess I will get it for you tomorrow."
Smile still on her face, she nodded. "Un."
Hinata's voice was closer now. Looking at her beautiful face, Yuzuru followed the pull and leaned down to kiss her forehead. He caressed her cheek with his knuckles. "See you tomorrow, Kanade."
Before he could walk away, Kanade grabbed his wrist. Tugging him down, she kissed his cheek quickly. A shy blush stained her cheeks. "See you tomorrow, Yuzuru."
He was left standing there, grinning like an idiot until Hinata found him. His friend asked what had put him in such a good mood, but he never answered. He was looking forward to meeting Kanade. And of course, to getting her straw hat, again.
