#02: Detective Conan (Shin'ichi/Conan & Shiho/Ai)

"Ai."
Shiho hummed in reply.
No matter how many times he tried, it was still weird to call his girlfriend that name. To be honest, he liked 'Shiho' better. He leaned in closer to her side. "Are you sure about this?"
She gave him an exasperated look. "I thought you wanted them to leave?"
"I do. I just don't want to hurt them too much. You know that they're still children."
She turned her eyes back to the road. "I know, but this is the only way for it to work in the long run. If you want to change your—"
He came to a halt, stopping her from walking as they were still holding hands. "Don't tell me that you actually enjoyed his attention."
Hearing his angry voice, she glared at him. Her annoyance was short-lived, however, as soon as she saw his expression. Jealousy was written all over his face. Not caring that they were being watched, she kissed his left cheek and squeezed his hand, ultimately calming him down.
"I'm sorry," he muttered before, once again, started walking down to the small cafe for their date. This date was deliberately planned to get their two little friends, Ayumi and Mitsuhiko, to stop their aggressive moves on them. It drove him mad with anger and jealousy whenever Mitsuhiko tried to get Shiho away from him. Additionally, Ayumi had been rather bold lately as she kept clinging to him, something he and Shiho did not appreciate greatly. Shiho might not say anything, but he could see the irritation in her eyes whenever she looked at Ayumi.
So, here they were, trying to get them off of their backs. Though, if they thought about their current predicament again, it was rather funny to feel threatened when their little friends were only children. Still, both were still learning about each other so to speak. With him living with Ran, he hardly had time for Shiho, so obviously, third party was something they did not need. Not now or ever.
"Don't worry about it," she replied before stating, "We're here."
Both entered the lovely cafe that was designed solely for couples. They had been coming here since they started going out three months ago.
Kasumi, the daughter of the cafe's owner, greeted them warmly. Her long brown hair was tied back in half pony tail. "Good afternoon, Ai-chan, Conan-kun."
Shiho replied to her greeting while Shin'ichi returned the college student's smile. "Good afternoon, Kasumi-nee-chan."
"As usual?" Kasumi asked with a grin.
Shin'ichi nodded. "Yes please."
They were led to a small table for two beside the glass window near the corner of the cafe. As soon as they sat down, Shin'ichi checked their little friends' location and sighed.
Shiho raised an eyebrow. "I take it they're still following us?"
After getting his nod, she frowned. "I thought they would have given up when I kissed you earlier."
Shin'ichi glared at the table cloth. "I thought the same."
"Well… I guess we will have to be more demonstrative about our lo–relationship."
His eyes immediately darted to her, clearly catching her slip just now. Shiho refused to meet his eyes, but he could see the faint blush on her cheeks. Love… They had never brought that subject up since he wanted to take it slow. But now, more than ever, he wanted to know the depth of her feelings for him.
"Do you?" Do you love me?
"…"
Kasumi chose this time to deliver their usual order: banana split. Shin'ichi didn't really like ice cream, but Shiho seemed to favour it. He loved to make her happy, so he often went along with what she liked. As soon as they were alone once again, he gazed at his girlfriend.
"Shiho." Please…
"…"
"Be honest." Don't lie to me.
She raised her gaze. "I do." I do love you.
He released the breath he didn't know he was holding. Warmth filled his heart. "Since when?"
A small smile appeared on her lips. "Forever, I guess."
He frowned upon seeing that her smile that didn't reach her eyes. However, he didn't dwell on it for long as he started questioning his own feelings for Shiho. Did he love her?
The rest of their date was spent in silence. They didn't even remember their two friends who were still following them. As their date ended, they both stood still before the gate of Agasa's house.
"Shiho…" he whispered quietly.
She looked up at him, waiting for his answer.
"I love you." He realised the truth of his words as soon as they left his lips. It felt so right to feel this way, to love Shiho. It might be too early to have this feeling, but they both still had time to learn more about each other. This time, her smile reached her eyes, and he couldn't be happier to see the content look on her face. Without hesitation, he leaned close to her face. He saw her eyes close when their lips met in a chaste kiss.
Unknown to them, Ayumi and Mitsuhiko, who saw them kiss, immediately left them with dejected expressions.
They pulled apart for a while before he leaned in for another taste, again and again until they were breathless. When they were sober enough, they finally realised the purpose of their date had turned into something more for them both. For once, they were grateful for Ayumi and Mitsuhiko's interference.
