#08: Gakuen Alice (Natsume & Mikan)

Her long, dark brown hair flowed down freely behind her back while her deep, violet eyes scanned the classroom critically. A piece of blank paper was lying on her table while her right hand playing with her pen. Sitting right at the left corner, she studied the class silently, but suddenly, a hand tapped her shoulder. She turned and met with a pair of suspicious eyes.
"Yes?" She smiled.

The girl tapped her lips. "Are you a new student?"

"Mikan-chan, she's not a new student," the pink-haired girl interrupted before she could answer.

Mikan turned to look at the pink-haired girl. "Anna-chan…"

"I'm sorry. May I know your name?" Mikan smiled at the violet-eyed girl.

The girl smiled. "My name is—"

Again, she was interrupted, but this time, it was by Narumi-sensei, who walked into the classroom.

Everyone immediately sat in their respective seats.

Mikan gazed at the girl one more time before going to her seat as Narumi-sensei was going to start homeroom.

As soon as she sat down, Natsume, who was sitting down at her side, asked, "Who are you looking at?"

"No one," Mikan answered, but her eyes were staring the girl. Of course, the said girl could feel Mikan's eyes on her and did nothing about it.

Natsume looked at where she was looking at and raised an eyebrow when he found just a girl. There was nothing special about the girl except for her dark brown hair that could be mistaken as black and her deep violet eyes. He turned his eyes to Mikan. "What about her?"

"I've never seen her before. Anna said she's our classmate, but I can't remember her at all. Don't you think that's strange?" Mikan furrowed her eyebrows.

Natsume shook his head. "You think too much."

"Maybe you are right…" Mikan shrugged.

For the rest of homeroom, Mikan decided to leave the girl alone. She would ask her after homeroom was over. Unfortunately for her, right after homeroom was over, the girl was gone. She went to Anna. "Anna-chan, do you know that girl's name?"

"Who are you talking about, Mikan-chan?" Anna looked at her strangely.

Mikan looked back at her, confused. "You know, the one whom you said wasn't a new student?"

"I'm sorry, Mikan-chan. I can't recall saying that to you." Anna hummed.

Mikan's eyes widened. No way! Don't tell me that I'm the only who remembers this?

She ran out of the classroom and started looking for the girl. There was something mysterious about the girl, and she needed to find out who she was and what she wanted. While looking for the girl, a hand rested upon her shoulder. She turned around and met with a pair of worried sapphire eyes.

"Are you alright, Mikan?"

Mikan blinked. "Akira? What are you doing here?"

"I've been looking for you since you didn't come back to your room after homeroom as you promised." He looked at her curiously.

She smacked her forehead. "I'm so sorry. I totally forgot about that because I met this girl… and no one remembers her except for me. Right now, I'm trying to look for her."

"Why do you need to look for her?" he commented.

"Because!" Mikan tried to find a reason, but none came to mind.

Akira sighed. "You must be tired. Let's go back to your room."

He then handed her a piece of candy, and she immediately ate it. Akira had been staying with her after "that incident." They had talked about how to handle her animalistic mind. Truthfully, she couldn't choose any of the options given. To drink her twin brother's blood for half a year was too much for her even though Akira was willing to let her have his blood. The last option was more difficult: to mate with Shiro. Could she bind herself to Shiro forever? She wouldn't hesitate if it were Natsume, but he was a normal human, unlike her. Moreover, she knew that Natsume wouldn't want to be bound to her forever. She sighed.

Akira, who heard her sigh, grabbed her hand while walking, "Don't think too much, Mikan. Please remember that I'll always be with you."

He smiled with assurance as he knew she was thinking about the solution to her animalistic self.

Mikan squeezed her twin's hand in response.

"How are you feeling now?"

"I'm fine, but as predicted, it can't hold the transformation for one hour anymore."

"Did you bring more than usual?"

"Of course. Natsume, too, always reminds me to take one when its effects fade away."

"Akira?" she wondered when he stopped walking.

Looking at their surroundings, Akira continued walking again while pulling Mikan with him. Mikan was confused but let him lead the way. Some students who saw Akira started whispering to each other. It was obvious that no one had seen him around the academy, or to be precise, at this branch of academy. When they were out of the school building, Akira continued dragging her to the dormitory. They immediately went to Mikan's room.

"Leave us," Akira said at once after Rin greeted them.

Rin gave a respectful bow and left the two.

After the both of them were inside the bedroom, Akira sat on the bed and began, "Answer me, how do you feel about Natsume?"

Hearing his name, Mikan's face immediately turned scarlet. "W-what are you talking about?"

"I didn't know that my twin sister would play dumb with me." Akira grinned, and her face turned redder.

"Tell me so that I can help you." Akira smiled. He knew perfectly well about Natsume's feeling. Judging from the boy's reaction yesterday, he made a conclusion that Natsume liked his twin.

Natsume looked at the branches that were crashing at each other before closing his eyes.

"Twin brother…" Natsume muttered.

Mikan smiled. "Yep. Akira is my twin brother."

After the information processed in his head, he almost smacked himself for being jealous. He was jealous of her twin brother! It was so silly that he could feel that his rational mind laugh at him.He was brought back to the reality when she started telling him about how she was originally came from Gakuen Alice USA. It was because of her animalistic self took over three years ago, soshe was transferred here, Gakuen Alice Japan. However, who knew that the same thing could happen again, and ironically, once more because of jealous fan club members). She told him that her other half took over mainly because she was mentally challenged by them. After she was finished telling him the story, she asked Akira what they were talking about when she was asleep. Akira told her everything, but he left the part about his feelings.

"I see…" she responded quietly and looked at Shiro. "Why did you never tell me about it?"

Shiro smiled. "Will you have believed me if I told you?"

"Of course, I will." Mikan pouted.

"I see… I'm sorry then. I should have told you about it."

"I'm curious," Mikan pondered out loud after a moment.

Shiro and the others looked at her and waited for her to continue.

She gazed at Shiro with great curiosity. "How are you able to control the transformation? I've never seen you eat anything to prevent it. Care to explain?"

"Transformation?" Akira raised an eyebrow and looked at Shiro. "I don't think he has any other transformation aside from his already weird appearance."

Shiro sweat dropped. "In other words, you're saying that I'm weird when I'm not."

Akira rolled his eyes. "I thought you would have realised that by now, but I guess I was wrong."

Shiro shook his head as he knew that Akira always tried to irritate him. He felt Mikan's eyes on him and turned to her. She stared at him with suspicious eyes that made him sweat drop. He sighed."I've been drinking blood that was chemically mixed with medicine."

Mikan tilted her head. "Medicine?"

Shiro stared at her and thought she was so cute for tilting her head like that. 'She's just making me love her even more.'

Shiro nodded in confirmation. "Yeah, it's almost the same as your candy. The only different is the formula in mine is much stronger than yours."

"But didn't you say that people like you and Mikan only need to drink blood to hold the animalistic mind?" Akira inquired while looking at Shiro curiously.

"Yes, I did say that. In my case it's just for the transformation. It can hold my transformation much longer if I drink blood."

Shiro gazed at Mikan. "You can do the same with mixing the blood with ten candies at once."

And then, he reminded her, "Drinking blood when your animalistic self takes over is different when you're in the right mind."

Mikan gulped as she imagined what the taste would be like while Shiro continued, "After you drink the blood, you will sleep for a few days without waking up."

A moment later, Mikan's face turned green.

Akira touched her hand and shook her shoulder gently. "Mikan, are you alright?"

Mikan clamped her hand over her mouth. She got up from her bed and ran to bathroom. Everyone but Shiro and Natsume rushed to Mikan as she started throwing up in the bathroom. Shiro closed his eyes as he knew what she was thinking at the moment.

"You love her," Natsume stated calmly.

Shiro opened his eyes and amber stared at crimson. After a while he calmly replied, "I do."

Natsume balled his fists tightly. They stared into each other's eyes as they challenged the other to back away from the battle, the battle of love.

Natsume snapped his eyes open and glared at the tree branches. He would not hand her over to anyone. But then, he didn't know what to do. The only thing he could do was prevent Mikan from becoming Shiro's mate as it was impossible for him to turn into a cat like Mikan.

In the very corner of the library, two figures stood in front of the last book shelf where no one was around. One was a dark brown-haired man with a pair of deep emerald eyes, and the other was a dark brown-haired woman with a pair of deep violet eyes.

"How was it?" the man asked his partner, but he received no response. His partner was too occupied with the book she was reading. Since he wouldn't have that, he snatched the book she was reading, and before she could scream at him, he sealed her mouth with his and started kissing her. Her wide eyes slowly closed as she wrapped her arms around his neck and started kissing him back. After a moment he broke the kiss. She whimpered quietly at the loss of his warm body when they pulled apart. He smirked. "Now, tell me. How was it?"

She huffed and crossed her arms while looking away from him.

He smiled. "Now, now, don't be like that. I'll give you a reward after you tell me everything."

"Someone from the high school class A noticed me." She sighed dejectedly.

The man hummed. "Then, do you still want to be here?"

"Of course! I still want to play here." She grinned at him and tilted her head. "I have a feeling that someone needs my help."

"Remember what I said." He pinched her nose gently.

She hugged his waist and planted a kiss on his lips. "Don't worry."

"Of course, I will worry for you. You're my little girl." He gazed at her.

She pouted cutely. "How many times I have to tell you? I'm not a little girl."

"So?" he asked with a small chuckle.

"I have investigated about the girl. She has the Nullification Alice. That was why my power was not working on her. Her name is Mikan Sakura. I've found something interesting about her and this boy named Natsume Hyuuga…" she trailed off.

He pinched her nose again. "I don't want you to go near him."

"Awww! Don't tell me you're jealous!" She teased him with a wide grin.

His face turned serious. "I am, and you know that, don't you?"

"I do." She buried her face in his chest.

He hugged her small body. "It's been a while since you have had some fun, so you have my permission."

"Thank you, dear…" She smiled and looked up at him. "Now, where's my reward for telling you everything?"

He smiled at her. Before leaning down and kissing her lips, he told her, "Please remember that you are my most important person…"

"I remember that," she muttered before their lips met. After getting a searing kiss from him, she looked into his eyes. "I'll see you again later. I have to start my investigation about this Natsume…"
